Migration

The Masai Mara in Kenya and The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania make up the Serengeti Plains, the setting for the annual migration (usually July to November).  One can witness over a million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle go in search of water and grass.   Close on their tail are predators such as lion and cheetah.

The abundance of water and excellent availability of food are the reasons why the Masai Mara, (a continuance of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park), has the greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa.

The Serengeti National Park covers 14,763 sq km of endless rolling plains which reach up to the Kenyan border and extends almost to Lake Victoria. The park is teaming with stunning wildlife - it is thought that over 3 million large mammals roam the plains.

As the Migration covers such a vast area, your accommodation will be determined by the time of year you’re visiting and where the animals will be crossing at that point. Accommodation ranges from luxury tented camps to classic lodges and hotels. Your Migration experience could take place in either Tanzania or Kenya, or a combination of both. Your gateways into East Africa are Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Nairobi in Kenya.
